Placement Outcomes

We track placements for our MS graduates because outcomes are the only fair test of a graduate program. The data on this page covers tracked alumni placements across industry, research, and academia. We update it on a rolling basis as new placements are reported.

Three things stand out in the numbers: our graduates are concentrated at the top tier of tech employers, they hold the same range of roles you would expect from any leading CS program, and a meaningful share of them go on to senior engineering, executive, or faculty positions.

Humphrey A

Humphrey "Kwame" Amoakohene

From Emory's 4+1 program to Software Engineer at Goldman Sachs in New York City.

From the moment he joined Emory’s 4+1 Computer Science program, Humphrey embraced every opportunity to challenge himself academically and grow as a future technology leader. Through courses like Computational Linguistics and Foundations of HCI, he discovered a passion for innovation, problem-solving, and building technology that connects people and ideas.

Humphrey’s time at Emory was defined by curiosity, determination, and leadership. Beyond the classroom, he served as a Student Ambassador, welcoming prospective and incoming students through tours, orientation programs, and admissions events. His energy, mentorship, and pride for Emory helped shape meaningful experiences for future students and their families.

“Emory gave me the technical foundation, but more than that it gave me a community that believed in me long before Wall Street did.”

Common Roles

Software engineering is the single largest career path. Of all tracked role records, roughly 119 are some level of Software Engineer, Software Developer, or Software Development Engineer; ranging from new-grad to staff and principal. 66 alumni hold the title "Software Engineer" specifically; another 17 hold "Senior Software Engineer" and 16 are "Software Developer."

Data is the second-largest track. Around 41 alumni hold Data Scientist, Data Engineer, Data Analyst, or related machine-learning roles, including senior and staff variants and Data Science Manager titles.

Senior individual contributor and leadership tracks are well represented: 32 placements at senior, staff, principal, or lead engineering levels, plus 29 alumni in executive roles (CTOs, CEOs, founders, and VPs of engineering). 8 alumni hold engineering manager or director titles; another 8 are tech leads or architects (security, IAM, cloud).

Academic and research careers remain a meaningful destination: 24 alumni hold professor titles (assistant, associate, full), and another 7 hold postdoctoral, research scientist, or research engineer positions.

Considering a PhD? 31 of our tracked alumni went on to earn a PhD, many here at Emory.
